♪Following in the footsteps of Van Gogh – ゴッホを訪ねて

Hi everyone! Thank you for tuning in to Time for English.

After Nice, my mother and I spent another few days in Provence.

We used a chauffeured car service for a day to follow in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh, who as you know is a Dutch impressionist painter. My mother loves his paintings and it was her special request to visit Arles and Saint-Remy De Provence.

Van Gogh stayed in Arles only for a year and a half, yet produced over 300 paintings during his time there. We visited many locations in the area that appeared in some of his most treasured paintings such as Café Terrace at Night, the Courtyard of the Hospital in Arles, the Entrance to the Public Park in Arles and Langlois bridge.

We had a good time and took a lot of pictures. The only thing that could have been better was the weather. It rained in torrents all through the afternoon.

Now, would you like to try a quiz? I’ll read three sentences. Please listen carefully and choose the one that is NOT true. Ready?

1. In Arles, Junko and her mother enjoyed everything but the weather.
2. Junko’s mother does not appreciate paintings.
3. Vincent Van Gogh produced more than 300 paintings during his stay in Arles.
