All’s Well That Ends Well. — 終わりよければ…

今日でいよいよ2007年も終わり。今年も『エイゴの時間』を聞いていただき、ありがとうございましたm(__)m
今年最後のレッスンは、ある意味、英語らしいエッセイをお届けします 日本人としてはちょっと違和感があるかもしれないけど、欧米では、プロジェクトの完了パーティなどの挨拶 で“皆さんのおかげ、特に裏方の人たちがいないと成り立たなかった”といったメッセージをよく聞きます。外国人と仕事をしている人は、ちょっと恥ずかしいかもしれないけど同じように感謝の言葉をかけてみてくださいね

英文スクリプト
　It’s the last day of 2007. Another half a day busying yourself doing the last minute this and that like housecleaning, shopping, cooking, and card-writing; then eating traditional soba noodle while hearing the 108 midnight tolls… And voila! It’ll be 2008! Time flies, doesn’t it?

　But right now, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank you again for being so loyal to our service. We’re very happy to announce that 100 episodes have been posted to date and that this is the 101st episode of Time for English. We think it’s wonderful and without your support we couldn’t have come this far. Thank you so much.

　And personally I can’t believe it myself I’ve written nearly 100 pieces of essays for the program. I enjoyed it and hope you did too. I hope you’ve found it helpful, because helping you learn and improve your English is what this is all about. And also, I want to thank my partner, Kaori, because she is the driving force, or in the driving seat rather, building the website, keeping it updated and communicating with you. Although you don’t hear her voice, she’s always with you. I don’t know what to do without her.

　2007年も今日で終わり。あと半日、大掃除やら買い物やら料理やら年賀状書きやら、やり残しのあれこれを片付けるのに忙しく過ごし、除夜の鐘を聞きながら年越しそばをすすれば、なんともう2008年です。まさに光陰矢のごとし、ですね。

　それはそれ、ここでは皆さんのご愛顧に改めて感謝したいと思います。というのも、「エイゴの時間」の放送がこれまでに100回を数え、今回で晴れて101回目を迎えることとなりました。何とも嬉しい気分ですが、聞いてくれる皆さんがいなければ、こんなに長く続けてはこられなかったでしょう。ほんとうにありがとう。

　それからちょっと個人的に。私自身、100話近くも書いてきたなんて驚きです。とても楽しかったし、皆さんにも楽しんでもらえたのなら嬉しい。役に立つと思ってもらえればとても嬉しい。皆さんが英語を学ぶ、あるいは英語力を磨くお手伝いをすることこそ、このプログラムの目的なのですから。それからもうひとつ。相棒のkaori クンにも感謝します。彼女こそがメインエンジン、というか運転手で、ウェブサイトを作り、更新し、皆さんのコメントにお返事するという仕事を一手に引き受けてくれています。声は聞こえなくても、彼女もちゃんとここにいます。彼女がいなけりゃ前に進まないんです。
