年末年始は、おうち にお呼ばれする機会も増えますね だいたいお菓子 を持って行くことが多いのですが、先日、持って行ったお菓子を『お持たせ¹だけど、美味しそうだから一緒にいただきましょう 』と言って紅茶 と一緒に出してくださった方がいました。とってもスマート と感心してしまった私。皆さんも使ってみてください 特に目上の方には感心されると思います あ、でも事前に来客が分かっている場合は、ちゃんとお茶菓子を用意しておくのがマナーだそうです

さて。今日は、お呼ばれされたときに役立つ挨拶の定番フレーズをご紹介します。

　When I found the DVD “Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona” in a nearby video shop, I immediately took it. Christmas is just a few days away, and people tend to stay in with a good bottle of wine and specialty food rather than dining out at an expensive restaurant due to the bad economy. Suggesting a movie of lighthearted romantic drama seemed to be a good thing to do. But, the movie has turned out to be quite different from what I thought it would be. Far from it². I have to tell you it’s not exactly appropriate for Christmas Eve for two.

　Having said that, it’s an interesting movie. That’s for sure. This movie, which is directed by Woody Allen, is a story about two American girls, Vicky and Cristina, who spend the whole summer in Barcelona. They’re very close but very different. Vicky is sensible³. She’s the kind of person who thinks before doing anything. Contrarily, Cristina is emotional and more adventurous, a “go-with-the-flow” type of girl. And there’s another woman who plays a central role in the story, Maria Elena, who is very beautiful and gifted in⁴ art but fierce⁵ and feisty⁶. If you’re a woman, you may be able to identify yourself with⁷ one of those three women, when you watch it.

　Anyway, let’s learn a phrase for now. When Vicky and Cristina arrive at Vicky’s relative’s house in Barcelona, the hostess meets them at the entrance and Cristina says to her, “Thank you so much for having me here“. You can use this phrase to express your gratitude⁸, when someone invites you to a party or lets you stay at his or her place. You may be able to use it during the coming year-end and new year holidays.

　とはいえ、おもしろいことはおもしろい それは確かです。この作品、ウッディ・アレンの監督ですが、2人のアメリカ人の女の子、ヴィッキーとクリスティナが一夏をバルセロナで過ごすお話です。2人は親友ですが、性格は全然違います ヴィッキーは常識的で、必ず考えてから行動するタイプ。一方、クリスティナは感情的で向こう見ず、成り行き任せなところがある女の子です。そして物語で中心的な役割を果たす女性がもう1人登場します。マリア・エレーナです。彼女はたいへん美しく、芸術家肌、しかし気性は激しく、短気です。もしあなたが女性なら、映画を見ながら、3人のうち自分はどのタイプだろうと考えるかもしれませんね

　内容はともかく、ここではフレーズを学びましょう ヴィッキーとクリスティナがバルセロナにあるヴィッキーの親戚の家に到着するシーン、家主夫人が2人を玄関先で出迎えます。クリスティナは彼女に対し、”Thank you so much for having me here“と言います。誰かがパーティに招待してくれたり、家に泊めてくれたりしたときに、感謝の気持ちを表現するフレーズです。年末年始のお休み中に使う機会があるかもしれませんね
