何かに夢中になると、脳が刺激されて老化を防いでくれるのだとか 何かに夢中になっている時って、イヤなこととか忘れられて精神的にもよさそうですよね。

　After having a long week at work, my brain cells needed to take a break. So, I was ready to spend the weekend doing nothing but reading books and watching movies. And I got this movie “He’s Just Not That Into You”. It’s a romantic comedy, sounded pretty simple from the jacket photos and storyline description.

　You see several women in the story. Beth has been in a committed relationship¹ with her boyfriend who doesn’t want to get married while she wants to get married. Janine is a married woman who loves her husband but can’t trust him. In the meantime, for Gigi, Ana, and Mary, their major concern is to find someone right for them. My question is, are we, I mean women, all that desperate for² the right relationship? We’re supposed to have other interest and concerns. I understand the movie is all about relationship, but I think women are kind of sadly depicted³. Frankly put, I didn’t like it.

　Anyway, let’s learn a phrase. And I want to look at the title today, which is “He’s just not that into⁴ you“. To be into means to be interested in or involved with. So, when you say he’s not that into you, it means, he’s not that interested in you, he’s not that serious about you. Let’s say, you’ve started taking a Yoga class and now it has a big impact on your lifestyle. You get Yoga books, you get yoga clothing, CDs, Videos and everything. Then I would say, “Gee! You’re really into it!” And you’d say, “Oh yeah, I’m really into it!”

　物語には何人かの女性が出てきます。ベスにはまじめに付きあう彼氏がいますが、彼は結婚はしたくない でもベスは結婚したい。ジェニーンは既婚で、夫を愛してはいるけれどイマイチ信用できない 一方、ジジ、アナ、メアリーにとって、人生の重大事は自分にふさわしい相手を見つけることです。うーん。私たち、というのは女の人のことですが、死ぬほど彼氏がほしいものでしょうか 他にも関心事や重大事はあるはずです。もちろん、恋愛映画だということは分かっているんですが、それにしてもずいぶんと悲しい女性の描き方かなと 率直に言って、気に入らない。

　ま、それはそれ。フレーズにいきましょう 今日はタイトルに注目しました。『He’s Just Not That Into You』です。be into というのは、何かに関心があるとか、何かと深く関わっているという意味です なので「彼はあなたにそれほど into していない」というのは、「あなたにそれほど関心がない 」、「あなたのことをそれほどまじめに考えていない 」という意味です。例えば、あなたは最近、ヨガを始めました。それが生活全般に多大な影響を与えています。ヨガの本、ヨガのウェア、CD、ビデオ、あれもこれもヨガ。そこで私はこう言います。「まったく、ほんとにヨガにintoしてる(はまってる)のね 」 で、あなたはこう答えます。「そうなの、ほんとにintoしてる(はまってる)の 」
