今日取り上げる映画は、法廷もの。なので、前半は日常会話では使いそうにない、ちょっと難しい単語が並んでいます 「なんとなく」言っていることが分かればよしと考えてくださいね。取り上げるフレーズ自体は難しくはないし、表現の幅が広がるのでぜひマスターしてください

英文スクリプト
　I rented a movie. It’s a crime suspense drama titled “Beyond A Reasonable Doubt”. It’s a story about a high-profile district attorney¹ planting false evidence² to get a conviction³. Sounds familiar. The postal abuse⁴ case in Osaka is still fresh in our minds. A public prosecutor⁵ was arrested because he admitted to tampering with⁶ data related to the case. It’s terrifying⁷.

　Unfortunately, I didn’t find the movie very exciting. Actually I was hitting the fast-forward button once every ten minutes. Naturally, I don’t have a lot of words and phrases to share with you. I just managed to get one which I thought you might be interested in. So, I’m going to talk about the word “hunch⁸“.

　When you have a hunch, you have an intuitive⁹ feeling about something; you feel that something will happen or something is going on. I’m sure you have this kind of experience; maybe you don’t know exactly what but you feel something good will happen or something bad will happen. It’s a hunch. Let’s say, you have a plan and you think it will work, although it’s just a hunch. You have a hunch that your plan will work.
　Well, I have another DVD for tonight. And I have a hunch this will be good!

スクリプト訳文
　DVDを借りてきました。『ダウト～偽りの代償』というクライムサスペンスです。名の売れたやり手検事が有罪判決を勝ち取るために証拠をねつ造して云々という話。どこかで聞いたような 大阪の郵便不正事件はまだ記憶に新しいところです。事件に関するデータ改ざんを認めた検察官が逮捕されたというあの事件です。何とも恐ろしい話です

　残念ながら映画そのものはあまりおもしろくなかった 実を言うと、10分に1回は早送りボタンを押していたくらいです 当然、皆さんにお話する単語やフレーズも品薄 これはおもしろいかなと思える単語をかろうじてひとつ確保したにすぎません。hunch という単語です

　何かを直観的 に感じるとき、何かが起こる予感がするとき、何かが起こっていると感じるとき、英語では have a hunch という表現を用います。皆さんも経験があると思います。それが何かはっきりとは分からないけれど、何となく良いことが、あるいは悪いことが起こる予感がする。これが hunch です。例えば、ある計画があります。単なるhunch(勘)ではあるのですが、この計画はうまくいく気がする。これは、You have a hunch that your plan will work(計画がうまくいく気がする)と表現します

　さて、今晩も映画 を見る予定です。I have a hunch this will be good! (この映画はおもしろそうな予感がする)
