I drew a blank1 for two movies in a row, meaning I watched two movies in the hope that I would get some interesting words or phrases but I found none. One is “Where the Wild Things Are” which I talked about last week. The other is “Salt” which is a spy action thriller starring Angelina Jolie. What would I say about it? Well, you could wait until it’s not longer new.
I gave another shot. Third time lucky2, so to speak. I got the movie called “Up”. It’s also known as “Grandpa Carl’s Flying House”.
”Up” is a Disney animation movie produced by Pixar. It’s a story about 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen and 8-year-old Russell travelling on a flying house. On their way to Paradise Falls, their vehicle3 breaks and they end up walking around dragging the house. Russell starts whining4. I’m tired. My knee hurts5. My elbow hurts and I have to go to the bathroom.
Now, let’s learn this word “hurt”. Let’s say, you jog for an hour and you feel pain in your knees. You would say, “Oh, my knees hurt”. You sit behind a computer all day and you feel pain in your back. You would say, “Oh, my back hurts”. Maybe your eyes hurt too.

DVDを2本見て、2本とも外しました どういうことかというと。おもしろそうな単語やフレーズを探して映画を2本見たんですが、ひとつも見つかりませんでした 1本目は『かいじゅうたちのいるところ』、これは先週お話しましたね。2本目は『ソルト』。こちらはアンジェリーナ・ジョリー主演のアクション 映画です。感想は うーん、新作じゃなくなるまで待ってもいいかも。。。
こりずに再度挑戦。三度目の正直って言うでしょう 今度は『UP』を見ました。『カールじいさんの空飛ぶ家』と言えば分かるかな
『カールじいさんの空飛ぶ家』はピクサー制作のディズニーアニメです。78歳のカール・フレドリクセンと8歳のラッセル少年が空飛ぶ家で旅をする物語です。「パラダイスの滝」に向かう途上、乗り物がだめになり、二人は空飛ぶ家を引っ張って歩きまわる羽目に陥ります そのうちラッセル少年が泣き言を言い始めます。疲れたよ。脚(膝)が痛いよ。腕(肘)が痛いよ。トイレに行きたいよ。
今日は、この「痛い(hurt)」という単語を覚えましょう 例えば、1時間ジョギングをしたら、膝が痛くなった。この場合は (my/your) knees hurt という言い方をします あるいは1日中コンピュータの前に座っていたら、腰が痛くなった。この場合は (my/your) back hurts です。目も痛いかもしれませんね。(my/your) eyes hurtです。
