　If you’re looking for movies to watch with your kids, I think Disney’s “Tangled”, also known as “Rapunzel”, is a great choice. I guess you know the story. Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but when she is eighteen, she decides to discover the world and who she really is. And what happens? I won’t tell you. Instead, let’s learn the word ‘turn¹‘ today, because in the movie Rapunzel uses the word to express her age.

　Now, I guess you know what the word ‘turn’ means as a driver. Let’s say you drive from south to north and you come to an intersection². If you want to go west, you will turn left. If east, turn right.

　But the word ‘turn’ has different meanings. In this case, it means to reach a certain age. For example, it will be your 25th birthday tomorrow. You will turn 25 tomorrow. You had your 35th birthday last month. You turned 35 last month. In Japan you can apply for³ a driver’s license when you turn 18 years old.

　ですが turn には他にも意味があります 今日学ぶのは「ある年齢に達する」という意味です。例えば、明日はあなたの25回目の誕生日です。この場合、You will turn 25 tomorrow (明日、25歳になる)と言います。あるいは、あなたの35回目の誕生日は先月でした。こちらは You turned 35 last month (先月、35歳になった)ですね。日本では when you turn 18 years old、つまり18歳になれば運転免許 を取得することができます
