新参者。こう聞くと英語にするのは難しそうですが、実はびっくりするほど簡単な単語で表現できます ちょっとした発想の転換が、英語をスラスラ話せるようになるコツなのかもしれませんね

英文スクリプト
　Last week you learned how to offer a chair or couch to your guest politely. Do you remember? You say ‘please have a seat’. I didn’t mention¹ it but I quoted this phrase from the movie “Hereafter”, and I’m going to give you another phrase from the same movie today, which is ‘new to something’.

　If you’re new to something, you have no previous experience of that. For example, in the movie, there is a line which goes ‘I’m new to San Francisco‘.

　It doesn’t have to be a place. It can be a job. It can be a thing both tangible² and intangible³. For example, you are new to this job. You are new to this application software. You are new to this idea. You are new to this type of car.

　To make sure you know how to use the phrase, make a few example sentences of your own.

　先週はお客様に椅子やソファを勧めるときの丁寧な表現を学びました。覚えていますか Please have a seat でしたね 特に言いませんでしたが、このフレーズは映画『ヒアアフター』から引用したものでした。今回も同じ作品からフレーズをもうひとつご紹介したいと思います。new to何々という表現です

　new to something というのは、これまでこの something を経験したことがないことを意味します 例えば、映画に出てきた台詞は I’m new to San Franciscoというものでした。

　もちろん、場所でなくてもかまいません。仕事でもいいし、有形、無形の物事の場合もあります。例えば、You are new to this job(この仕事を始めたばかり、この仕事に慣れていない)、You are new to this application software(このソフトを使い慣れていない)、You are new to this idea(こういう考え方には馴染みがない、このアイディアは初耳だ)、You are new to this type of car(この種の車には初めて乗る)、といった使い方をします
