heaviest snow in 45 years — 45年ぶりの大雪

先週、先々週と、2週連続で記録的な大雪に見舞われました。東京では45年ぶりの大雪だったそうです。今日は、この「～ぶり」という表現をマスターしましょう

　Earlier this month, on Saturday, February eight, the Tokyo area was hit by heavy snow. As much as¹ 27 centimeters of snow fell in central Tokyo, which was indeed the capital’s² heaviest in 45 years, according to the meteorological agency³. And they issued⁴ their first heavy snowfall⁵ warning⁶ in 13 years for the area.

　Now, when we describe a record-breaking or unusual event such as ‘the heaviest snowfall in 45 years’ or ‘the first warning in 13 years’, we often use the phrase ‘for the first time in⁷ such and such years’.

　For example, Tokyo had over 27 centimeters of snowfall for the first time in 45 years. Or, a heavy snow alert was issued for central Tokyo for the first time in 13 years.

　さて。「45年ぶりの大雪」とか「13年ぶりの警報発令」など、何か記録的なこと、異常事態を表現するとき、英語ではしばしばfor the first time in XX yearsというフレーズを用います

　例えば、東京で「45年ぶり」に27センチの積雪なら for the first time in 45 years です。また、東京23区で「13年ぶり」の大雪警報発令ならfor the first time in 13 yearsです
