Hang in there! — 踏んばれ!

「がんばれ 」は英語で何といいますか と聞かれることがあるのですが、英語では、シチュエーションによっていろいろな表現があります。今日は、その中から、何か難しい状況にある人にかける言葉「がんばれ 」を紹介します

Last week I talked about a news report on television about Masahiro Tanaka making his debut for the New York Yankees.

In that report I saw a Japanese reporter doing some man-on-the-street interviews. And one of the guys who were asked for a comment said he would support him, encourage him, cheering for the pitcher, “Hang in there, we’ll stick with you!“

You can tell someone to ‘hang in there’, if that person is in a difficult situation and you want to encourage him, or tell him not to give up.

And ‘I’ll stick with you’ means ‘I’ll remain loyal to you’ or ‘I’ll continue to support you’, ‘I’ll be with you all the way’.

　先週は、ニューヨーク・ヤンキースの田中将大投手のデビュー戦を報じたテレビニュース についてお話しました。

　ニュースの中で、日本人のレポーターが街頭でインタビュー をする模様が流れました。マイクを向けられた男性のひとりが「田中投手を応援したい 」と言って「Hang in there! We’ll stick with you!」とエールを送っていました

　英語ではよく、何か難しい状況に置かれている人に「がんばれ」、「あきらめるな」というとき、hang in there という表現を用います

　また、stick with you は「あなたのファンであり続ける、あなたを応援しつづける、ずっとついてるぞ」みたいな意味です
