まだまだ熱が冷めやらぬ「アナと雪の女王」。エイゴの時間でもlet it goについて取り上げました。今日は動詞 let の使い方を紹介します。

　Disney’s Frozen has just become Japan’s third highest-grossing movie. What does that mean? Well, it means the movie is making a staggering amount of money, over 25 billion yen to date. Congratulations!

　So, Frozen is hugely successful, but so is the film’s theme song Let It Go. We talked about the phrase ‘let it go’ a few Thursdays ago. And I want to focus on the verb ‘let’ today.

　Let’s say, you’re trying to open a jar lid but it’s stuck. I come in and say ‘Let me do it‘. It means ‘I will do it, I will open the lid for you’.

　I frequently say ‘let me give you some examples’. It means ‘I will give you some examples’. You’re going shopping. I want to go shopping with you. I’ll say ‘let me come with you’.

　例えば、あなたはビンの蓋を開けようとしています。でも開かない。そこで私がこう言います。Let me do it. これは「私がやりますよ、私がそのビンの蓋を開けてあげますよ」という意味になります

　私はエイゴの時間の中で、しばしば Let me give you some examples というセンテンスを用います。これは「私が事例をいくつか提供しましょう」という意味です。また、ショッピングに行こうとしているあなたに、いっしょに行きたい私はこうお願いするかもしれません。Let me come with you.
