♪distractions – 気が散る

在宅勤務はどうも気が散ってしまって集中できない!という方も多いのではないでしょうか? その原因は distraction 。今日はこの単語をマスターしましょう^^

Hi everyone! Thank you for tuning in to Time for English.

If you are newly working from home because of the COVID-19, you have probably realized by now (that) the home is full of distractions.

A distraction is something that takes your attention away from what you’re doing or interrupts your concentration.

For example, a television. If a TV is a distraction, plan what you want to watch ahead of a day, or even ahead of a week, and turn it off when you’re not watching it.

For me a new book is a big distraction. I don’t buy one when dealing with a tough deadline. If I see a new book on the other side of the table, it’s too hard to resist.

Kids can present a distraction as well. When they see you at home, they’re likely to expect you to play with them. However, you’ve been working for some time and need a break, then playing with a kid may be a welcome distraction.

Now, would you like to try a quiz? Please listen carefully and choose the one that is NOT correct. Ready?

A distraction means:
1. interruption
2. concentration
3. entertainment

今やっていることから注意を逸らさせるもの、集中力を邪魔するもの、これを英語ではdistraction(s) と言います。
