Are you familiar with the phrase “silver lining”? A silver lining is a sign of hope or a positive aspect in a negative situation. This phrase is part of the proverb “Every cloud has a silver lining”, which means that in every bad situation you can find hope or something positive.

Over the past few months, I’ve been seeing this phrase “silver lining” in the context of COVID-19. Media headlines often use the term “coronavirus silver lining” in conjunction with a work-life balance, climate change or something like “less driving, fewer crashes”.

And it’s no wonder though, a lot of people are trying to find the silver lining in anything, with the pandemic casting one of the largest and darkest clouds in the human history, and especially when it seems to be here to stay for any foreseeable future, if not for ever.

Well, let’s learn this proverb today, shall we? Please repeat after me:

Every cloud has a silver lining.
